A Poem In A Difficult Time (2025)
A Poem In A Difficult Time is a short animated film comprised of 450+ frames, hand-painted in watercolor and ink on paper by NY-based animator Jeremiah Dickey. The title is derived from a line by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish: ”A poem in a difficult time/is beautiful flowers in a cemetary” (To A Young Poet, published posthumously in 2010).
The film was made as part of To Gaza With Love, a global initiative organized by Animation Community for Palestine to support the work of Haneen Koraz, a Palestinian artist and educator who facilitates animation workshops with displaced women and children in Gaza, enabling them to tell their own stories in the form of collectively hand-crafted short animated films.
The artwork from A Poem In A Difficult Time is being offered in exchange for donations supporting Haneen and her small but mighty team's crucial work empowering voices and stories that would otherwise go unheard.
